Water Voles and Wetlands

Join Lee Valley Regional Park's Conservation Team on a walk to learn all about Water Voles and the wetland habitats where they live.

Water Voles were once common across Britain but have undergone serious decline throughout the last century, due largely to the loss and degradation of their wetland habitats and the spread of the invasive American Mink.

Here in the Lee Valley, thanks to ongoing efforts, good populations of Water Vole still thrive and this walk will take you on a tour of one of their key strongholds at Silvermeade. Along the way you will find out more about these charismatic little mammals, where they live and the work that is carried out to protect them and their habitats.  We'll search for their telltale signs along the network of ditches as we go and if we're lucky we might even see one, or at least hear the telltale 'plop' when they see us first!

Essential Info:
•    The meeting point for this walk will be opposite the café in Old Mill and Meadows car park
