Discover Bats, Moths and More
Join Lee Valley Regional Park’s Conservation Team for an evening dedicated to bats, moths and some of the other wildlife that comes out after dark, when most of our human visitors have left.
Our evening will start at our Wildlife Discovery Centre where a warm drink awaits. As everyone gathers there will be a chance to find out a bit more about some of our nocturnal animals and the ways we monitor them in the park, with various displays and activities to try. Weather permitting, there will also be some live moths for you to get up close to, collected from our light traps the previous night.
With everyone assembled we'll move through to the bird hide to settle in for a fascinating talk about some of these elusive nighttime creatures, with a particular focus on bats. Then for the final part of our evening we'll venture out into the dark armed with bat detectors to explore the immediate area, which is a hotspot for bats, and see what species we can discover.
Essential info:
• Please wear suitable, warm clothes as we will be in an unheated building and outside for part of the evening
• Please be advised that in the case of rain only the indoor elements of the event will be able to go ahead
• Please bring a torch as it will be dark when we finish
• Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available during the evening, we encourage you to bring a reusable cup if you have one.
• We advise that this event is suitable for adults and interested children from 8+, all children must be accompanied by an adult - please note part of the event will comprise a talk for up to an hour
• There is ample parking at Fishers Green car park. For car parking prices, please click here (please add link to parking page here)
• Proceeds from this event support our work to protect and enhance habitats and wildlife in the Lee Valley
