Active & Outdoors in Lee Valley

Open to Essex residents only due to funding

Bring the family to discover FREE activities in Lee Valley Regional Park in this six week programme funded by Active Essex. You’ll discover disc golf, orienteering, bird watching and more with equipment provided. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Our project is funded by Active Essex through their Find Your Active Fund. To meet funding requirements, we ask you sign up to all six sessions.

Transport: Free car parking – please give your number plate to staff. Minibus service also provided from Upshire Primary School, limited spaces. Priority for minibus spaces will be given to families who receive free school meals.

The sessions are suitable for families with children aged 5 and above (younger children are welcome however buggies may need to be pushed over short grass). The activities can be done at your own pace, it’s an introduction to opportunities to get active as a family. You don’t need a level of fitness just to be sufficiently mobile to walk across grass areas.

Saturdays 9 May -20 June (excluding 23 May)

10:00-12:00 (For minibus pick up please arrive by 9:30 minibus leaves Upshire Primary School 9:40.)

Session overviews:

  • 9 May - Week 1-Project introduction, active teambuilding activities and an introduction to orienteering to build group connections – at Upshire Primary School
  • 16 May - Week 2 - Orienteering on the small course to build confidence in using the park’s open spaces to get active park in Waltham Abbey Gardens car park
  • One week break for half term combined with bank holiday weekend
  • 30 May - Week 3 - Multisports and Disc Golf challenge, park at Lee Valley White Water Centre
  • 6 June - Week 4 - Walking expedition to the Wildlife Discovery Centre, Fishers Green. (Binoculars provided) park at Lee Valley White Water Centre
  • 13 June - Week 5 - Orienteering challenge on the larger course to develop confidence on using the park to get active park at Lee Valley White Water Centre
  • 20 June - Week 6 - Community day with multi sports play session, active games and scavenger hunt open to all. Encouraging family and friends to celebrate the project and pledge support to participants. Signposting to future activities opportunities, other community organisations invited.
